Social Work Club Gives Back

A few years ago several members of the Dalton State Social Work Club began partnering with The City of Refuge to prepare and serve meals at the local nonprofit.

It has become an annual tradition for club members.

Club members Ana Mendez, front left, and April Sheffield, as well as Katherine Johnson, back left, and Sarah Faulkenberry pose for a quick photo while in the kitchen at City of Refuge.

The City of Refuge was established in 1995 as a grass roots outreach program to meet the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the homeless, low income, poverty level and indigent families of Whitfield and Murray counties.

Students majoring in social work are required to perform volunteer service as part of their admission to the program. The junior class contributed more than 1,600 service hours by the beginning of this semester.

It’s another way Dalton State is giving back to the community.
